Yet another dubious firsthand claim by Brian Williams has come to light, this one involving one of the most significant moments in the 20th century: the demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
During a forum discussion at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in 2008, Williams was asked by an audience member to tell about his biggest “wow” journalistic moment.
“What was my wow … I’ve been so fortunate,” he said. “I was at the Brandenburg Gate the night the wall came down.”
The only problem, as CBS Los Angeles notes, is that Williams was assuredly not there the “night the wall came down.” The only American anchorman there to report the historic moment live was Tom Brokaw. Williams arrived the next day.
