‘Captain America’ Escorts Betty White to Accept People’s Choice Award

Chivalry is not dead. When 93-year-old national treasure Betty White was called to the stage to receive her “TV Icon” award at Wednesday night’s People’s Choice Awards, she got spontaneous assistance from none other than Chris Evans, the actor who plays Captain America.

It was a memorable moment that seemed to surprise and delight Ms. White, and the crowd at the Nokia Live Theatre in Los Angeles.

Evans was sporting a beard so he didn’t exactly look like his on-screen alter-ego, but his Marvel Comics heroism was on full display.

The Daily Mail breaks down the highlights of White’s speech:

‘Oh my goodness,’ said Betty once on stage.

‘When Melissa McCarthy [won the award for favorite comedic movie actress], she said she’d stay with us as long as you’d let her.’

White added, ‘Well, you abused the privilege with me.’

The actress seemed truly flattered then added, ‘Can you imagine – the people’s choice? At 93? I mean, that’s ridiculous! Oh, thank you with all my heart. Thank you.’
