Christie Refuses to Acknowledge Santorum Momentum: ‘I’m Really Not Feeling the Surge’

Chris Christie came out as an early supporter of Mitt Romney. As such, his “job,” so to speak, is to bolster his candidate‘s position while downplaying Romney’s opponents. And that’s what he did during an interview with Piers Morgan that aired on Tuesday. Case in point: Christie refuses to acknowledge that Rick Santorum — the new GOP frontrunner — is on a roll.

“Congratulations, but it doesn’t mean I have to buy it,” he said after Morgan broached the issue of a Santorum surge. “Listen, he won three contests in an evening, congratulations; and that’s great, good for him.”

“[But] I’m really not feeling the surge,” Christie added, “when we’ve given out, what, 10 percent of the delegates. Talk to me when we’re at 50, 60 percent of the delegates and then we can start seeing if anybody’s got a surge or not.”

He also went on to explain to Morgan why he won’t publicly criticize Romney (much to Morgan’s chagrin):
