Responding to an emergency call in Chatham, Massachusetts, a police officer was driving down an unlit road when he ran over an object and upon stepping out of the cruiser, found a human body.
From the Chatham Police Media Release:
A Chatham Police Officer, operating a marked police cruiser traveling south on Crowell Road, was responding to an emergency call when the cruiser ran over an unknown object lying in the roadway. The officer immediately stopped the cruiser and determined that it was a human body. The officer called for assistance and gave medical aid to the victim.
The victim, Garrett Gagne, age 22 of Longmeadow, Massachusetts was transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The release further states that it was unknown why or how Gagne was lying in the road or what his condition was prior to the accident. What police do know is that Gagne came to Chatham to celebrate the New Year with friends. As of now, the investigation is pursuing leads in identifying and locating those friends.
“The name of the officer will not be released at this time, but will be released within 24 hours,” the release reads.
