Ex-CIA Chief: Pelosi, Dems ‘Fully Aware’ of Interrogation Techniques and ‘Never Objected’

Jose Rodriguez, former CIA chief, said Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and other Democrats were “fully aware” of the enhanced interrogation techniques and “never objected” to their use on terrorists.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Rodriquez told host Chris Wallace that he and CIA lawyers specifically briefed Pelosi and the chairman of the House Select Committee Porter Goss in September of 2002 on the enhanced interrogation techniques they were utilizing against top-terrorist Abu Zubaydah.

Wallace wanted clarification that waterboarding, slapping, pushing into walls and sleep deprivation were all described to Pelosi. Rodriguez said:

I briefed her on all of the techniques. These people were fully aware of all of the techniques that were given to us and approved by the Office of Legal Counsel at Justice.

Rodriguez added that Pelosi never objected to these techniques “at all.” He says the only objection he recalls came in 2003 by way of former Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA), who cautioned about the possible future perception of the CIA in using these techniques.

Rodriguez identified then chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Jay Rockefeller as another Democrat who was “requesting specific information” from the 2004 Inspector General report. In fact, Rodriguez said Rockefeller encouraged the CIA to do more to gain information from the terrorists.

“So, all of these people knew exactly what we were doing,” Rodriguez said.
