Fake News: NBC Misleads Viewers On 'Crop Rot' Being Caused By Trump Immigration Policy

's data is from the 7th year of the Obama administration.

The data used by NBC has absolutely nothing to do with any of President Trump's immigration policies. Trump's policies had not only not been implemented yet, he hadn't even declared himself a candidate for the GOP primary.

A misleading story on NBC Nightly has led several outlets to report incorrect information about the state of California agriculture, sparking fears that food prices might soon rise due to a supposed labor shortage. The report highlighted “immigration fears” and claimed “a surge of arrests” by the Trump administration was partly to blame.

The problem: the central fact relied on by NBC News to back up the anecdotes of the single farmer interviewed is two years old. The connection to current debates over immigration or the Trump administration is simply imaginary.

That $13 million number comes from a survey from the Grower-Shipper Association of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties for the year 2015.

The Association's Claire Wineman told Breitbart that "this has been an ongoing problem and it continues. It’s not something that has suddenly happened."

In other words, this has nothing to do with President Trump as NBC, , Fortune and others have claimed.
