Mother Arrested After Preventing Her Daughter, 10, From Going To School For TWO YEARS

(Daily Mail) – A mother has been jailed after it was revealed he daughter has missed almost two years of school.

Missing in action: Elizabeth Marrero was arrested after she continually failed to bring her daughter to school causing her to miss nearly two years

Florida woman Elizabeth Marrero was arrested after she failed to listen to warnings that her daughter had to attend school.

The girl, who has not been named, only attended five days of school during the normal Lake County School district’s 180 day school years.

Officials with the Lake County School district in Florida had tried working with Marrero to make sure her daughter attended lessons.

But they said the girl, believed to be 15-years-old, hasn’t attended classes since the 2009-2010 school year.

School officials said the girl should now be in High School but has missed out entirely on her Middle School years.

After failing to get any cooperation from Ms Marrero, school officials handed the problem over to the state’s attorney’s office.

An arrest warrant was issued for Ms Marrero and she turned herself in.

Ms Marrero was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and faces up to a year in jail.

Her neighbours were stunned by the amount of time the teen has missed from school.

‘I mean two years? A couple of months okay. Two years? That’s too much. She needs to be arrested and prosecuted,’ said neighbor Abe Desouza.

‘It’s shocking because why wouldn’t a parent send their kid to school?’ said Francis Pimento, Ms Marerro’s neighbor.

Ms Pimento said the woman has toddlers in her home too.
