For Valentine’s Day, The New York Times Magazine encourages anyone celebrating the occasion to watch a video of a lesbian kiss between two Hollywood actresses.
Its promotion via Twitter:
It’s all a part of the magazine’s 9 Kisses video series, where they take the year’s best actors and pair them together in various “intimate encounters.” From Benedict Cumberbatch and Reese Witherspoon to Steve Carell and Laura Dern, the actors star in short, non-speaking clips in which they all share a kiss of some kind, comedic or otherwise.
The video series also includes a kiss between two male actors, David Oyelowo and Timothy Spall, but this one wasn’t a blatant promotion of homosexuality. Instead, one of the actors wins an arm wrestling match utilizing a quick peck on the lips leaving his opponent too shocked to continue.
Yet for the director and the NYT mag, it must have been just too icky for Julianne Moore to kiss John Lithgow. The “intimate encounter” between these two older Hollywood veterans was limited to a small kiss on the hand.
