On Thursday, President Obama announced that he plans to propose making community college “free” during his 2015 State of the Union address.
Speaking from Air Force One, Obama said he will “propose two years of free community college for American workers in Tennessee on Friday, as part of his three-state tour this week to preview his State of the Union Address,” reports USA Today.
“Put simply, what I’d like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for anybody who’s willing to work for it,” he said. “It’s something we can accomplish, and it’s something that will train our workforce so that we can compete with anyone in the world.”
Obama also emphasized he plans to aim his proposal at adults as well, not just children.
“It’s not just for kids,” he said. “We also have to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages, better benefits.”
