Tuesday evening a man was shot and killed by a policeman outside Berkeley, Missouri two miles away from Ferguson.
The shooting happened late Tuesday night, 11:15pm at a gas station, according to St. Louis County Police officer Sgt. Brian Schellman.
According to Schellman, the officer noticed two males on the side of the gas station building and approached, when one of the men pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer.
“Fearing for his life, the Berkeley Officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him,” Schellman said in a statement.
The shooting is under investigation and the handgun of the deceased was recovered at the scene. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
Tensions are high around Ferguson, Missouri after a grand jury refused to indict white police officer Darren Wilson for shooting and killing Michael Brown, an African American male.
