Death: Phoenix police say 60-year-old Robert Demarco apparently became lodged between an airport's upper and lower conveyor belts Friday killing him

Phoenix police say 60-year-old Robert Demarco apparently became lodged between the upper and lower conveyor belts.

The incident occurred around noon Friday at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 4.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel were called to the TSA checked baggage inspection area and the man was pronounced dead.

Passengers waiting for their luggage were not aware independently of Mr Demarco’s death having not witnessed it.

Authorities say there are no indications of foul play, but Phoenix police will investigate the death and Mr Demarco’s body was taken to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Grief counselors have been brought in for airport employees.

Mr Demarco was a ground service maintenance employee according to a US Airways spokeswoman.

The investigation will work to determine how Mr Demarco got into the position he did on the conveyor belt.

According to a spokesperson speaking with My Fox Phoenix, he was working on those belts when the incident occurred.

Mr Demarco leaves behind a wife and four children according to a family friend speaking with ABC15.

US Airways officials didn’t immediately return calls Friday afternoon for comment on the fatal incident.

The company didn’t respond with any information on Mr Demarco’s tenure with the carrier and his hometown.
